Chinese Delegation Visits K+S KALI Stand at the first country-wide Organic Field Days Trade Fair

The Organic Field Days trade fair opened at the Hesse-owned Frankenhausen site on June 21, 2017 in glorious weather. Over two days, the organic farming sector had an opportunity to provide extensive information on what it has to offer from practice and research. More than 8,000 visitors from Germany as well as international guests were able to learn new things from over 280 exhibitors. K+S KALI GmbH successfully presented its products for organic farming with a well-positioned stand and with a team that provided comprehensive information on fertilization as well as environment-related issues. A Chinese delegation from Jilin province visited the K+S KALI GmbH stand and considered the issue of balanced fertiliser use in greater depth during a round of discussions held at the company’s headquarters in Kassel.

Declining soil nutrient reserves mean a significant loss of soil fertility and can result in deficiency symptoms in the crops under cultivation. Similarly, an unbalanced supply of nutrients can negatively impact the environment. Questions that a Chinese delegation from Jilin province sought answers to at the Organic Field Days. During its fact-finding trip on organic farming in Germany organised by the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV), Hamburg, K+S KALI GmbH was an important port of call for questions concerning balanced fertiliser use.

Decision-makers in Jilin province plan to support and promote organic farming. Li Zhaoyu, Deputy secretary of Liaoyuan Municipal Party Committee, stressed that Liaoyuan, with its population of 1.3 million, would like to profit from German know-how in the context of agricultural cooperation. The government is in the process of realizing an organic farming project, said Li Zhaoyu. He noted that there was still a substantial lack of knowledge in this regard, on the use of fertilisers, for example, and this would have to be rectified.

The members of the delegation learned more about the possibilities for sustainable fertiliser use as guests of K+S KALI GmbH in Kassel. Prof Andreas Gransee, head of Innovation Lab Ag Tech & Nutrition, delivered a presentation in which he described the ways in which sustainable agricultural production can be achieved through efficient nutrient management. He stressed how important balanced fertilizer use was in order to make optimal use of agricultural land. No nutrients should be neglected in this regard.

The establishment of the International Magnesium Instituts (IMI) by K+S KALI GmbH together with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) in Fu Zhou/China as well as the K+S office in Shenzhen are important building blocks: In this way, the company offers local points of contact for agricultural advice as well as support for balanced fertiliser use.
