Soil fertility in Ethiopia and in Kenya

Soil fertility in Ethiopia and in Kenya

Together with the international potato research institute Centro International de la Papa (CIP) in Peru the Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition (IAPN) researches effective measures for improving soil fertility in Ethiopia and in Kenya. The IAPN is a collaboration between K+S KALI GmbH and the University of Goettingen. The research project aims at improving the living conditions of local smallholders by increasing productivity in potato cultivation, and is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Village development project

Village development project

K+S KALI GmbH and the Institute for Rural Research and Development (IRRAD) support smallholders in India in improving their income situation. This integrated approach includes advice on proper cultivation, balanced plant nutrition and improvement of the local infrastructure. At the same time, K+S KALI GmbH gains insight into balanced plant nutrition under the project's local conditions.

German Food Partnership

German Food Partnership

K+S KALI GmbH is a founding member of the German Food Partnership (GFP). In cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), associations and companies contribute their know-how and their contacts in order to promote sustainable food security in rural regions – such as in Africa. K+S KALI GmbH participates in a project focusing on potato cultivation in Kenya, by providing advice on balanced plant nutrition. While benefiting local farmers, this project also enables K+S to gain insight into agricultural practice and fertilisation in this region.

Growth for Uganda

Growth for Uganda

In Uganda K+S KALI GmbH has joined forces with the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), in order to develop an advisory network to assists farmers in the East African state of Uganda. The objective is to raise the productivity of smallholders by educating them on appropriate fertilisation methods, thereby increasing their self-sufficiency as well as their incomes. K+S KALI GmbH contributes to developing Uganda's great agricultural potential. One important research objective of the project is the analysis of soil samples in order to develop site-specific fertilisation recommendations. find out more about “Growth for Uganda“

Good practice in oil palm cultivation

Good practice in oil palm cultivation

In cooperation with the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), K+S KALI GmbH supports employees and plantation operators by providing education on appropriate and sustainable methods of oil palm cultivation. This education includes all aspects of cultivation – plant care, fertilisation and harvesting. Within the scope of this transfer of knowledge the experience gained from the Indonesian project is applied to younger project sites in Columbia, Ecuador and in Ghana.

HarvestZinc

HarvestZinc

By participating in the HarvestZinc Project K+S KALI GmbH joins the combat against nutritional zinc deficiency and its consequences for the health of the inhabitants in poor countries. In Brasil, Pakistan, India, China and Mozambique the partner organisations conduct research on how to increase the zinc content of staple foods such as rice and cassava. Zinc fertilisers represent an important contribution to achieving this goal.

Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition

Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition

Together with the University of Goettingen, Germany, K+S KALI GmbH operates the Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition (IAPN). The IAPN picks up on topical questions related to applied plant nutrition and passes new findings on to farmers. to page “Disseminating research and knowledge: The IAPN”

International Plant Nutrition Institute

International Plant Nutrition Institute

The International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) with headquarters in the US conducts research and disseminates knowledge on the relevance of responsible plant nutrition for providing food and feedstuff to the world's growing population. As a member, K+S KALI GmbH contributes to various international research groups and supports the transfer of knowledge on plant nutrition and current findings to agricultural practice. In addition, the IPNI co-organises the 2nd. International Symposium on Magnesium, scheduled to take place in November 2014, in Brazil. The symposium will be hosted by theInstitute of Applied Plant Nutrition (IAPN).

Magnesium and stress tolerance

Magnesium and stress tolerance

Together with the research team of Prof. Dr. Ismail Cakmak from Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey, K+S KALI GmbH investigates new findings on the effects and functions of magnesium under conditions of increased stress, such as aridity, heat or increased solar radiation.
