Werra plant: Hattorf site resumes production

After the repairs completed in December following the fire damage in the factory, and after being granted a deep-well injection approval, the Hattorf site of the Werra plant started up again yesterday and has today resumed full production until further notice. more

On December 23, 2016 the Kassel Regional Council approved the continued deep-well injection of saline wastewater from potash production at the Werra plant. The long-awaited water law permit will be valid from January 1, 2017 until December 31, 2021 and enables an annual volume of 1.5 million cubic meters to be injected – two million cubic meters had been applied for on average for the years 2016 - 2021. more

Hattorf site: Fire damage repaired, but production not yet resumed

At the start of this week, the repairs that became necessary following the fire damage at the Hattorf production facility of the Werra plant were completed. In technical terms, the facilities are now again ready for operation. However, due to the persistent low water level prevailing in the Werra it is not possible to resume production. more

K+S invests in fertiliser manufacturer in Saudi Arabia

K+S has acquired a 30% stake in fertiliser manufacturer Al-Biariq in Saudi Arabia. Through this investment, K+S is seeking to participate in the growth in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, particularly in the fertigation segment. more

Fire Causes Damage: Resumption of Production at Hattorf Site Delayed

During the start-up of factory operations, a fire broke out at the Hattorf site last Friday causing damage to the process control system power supply. Based on current information, repairs will take three to four weeks. During that time, it will not be possible to resume production as planned. more

The Supervisory Board of K+S KALI GmbH and Dr. Ralph Jäger, management board member and the company personnel director, agreed that Dr. Jäger’s current term of office, which is set to expire on 30 June 2017, will not be extended. He will leave the company on 30 November 2016. more

Increased Water Flow of the Werra: Hattorf Site can Resume Production

Today, the Hattorf site will restart the extraction and processing of crude salts again. Because of the higher flow of water in the Werra, the Werra plant can operate at full capacity at all three sites for the time being at least. more

Monitoring of the Werra/Weser rivers

The living conditions in the rivers have further stabilized "Werra" and "Oberweser". A further increase in the species of fish was found during the survey by water experts. An endangered species has also resumed. The summarized results can be found in our Press release. more

Saline Water from K+S Plants to be Used for Flooding Purposes

The K+S Werra and Braunschweig-Lüneburg plants will transport saline water to the decommissioned Bergmannssegen-Hugo (Sehnde, Hanover region) in the future. It will be used to flood the mine there. more

Institute of Applied Plant Nutrition (IAPN): Göttingen University and K+S to Continue Cooperating

Establishment of the International Magnesium Institute

On September 5, 2016, K+S KALI GmbH signed an agreement with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) to jointly establish the International Magnesium Institute (IMI) with its headquarters in Fu Zhou/China. The cooperation will involve the development of scientific know-how for application of the plant nutrient magnesium in agriculture in Asia. By means of joint research projects, new products will be developed and improved application recommendations worked out for fertilizers containing magnesium. more

Human Chain: Impressive support for the potash miners

Approval Obtained for Storage at Springen Mining Field

Yesterday, the Thuringia State Mining Authority granted the Company approval for the temporary storage of up to 200,000 cubic meters of process water from the Unterbreizbach site at the nearby Springen (Thuringia) mining field. This means that the Unterbreizbach site will now be able to start producing again. For the two Werra plant sites in Hesse to become fully operational, K+S will still require further permits to be able to dispose production wastewater. more

EBIT I of the K+S group in second quarter 2016 significantly below previous year

On the basis of preliminary figures, EBIT I for the K+S Group results to around € 10 million in the second quarter 2016 (Q2/15: € 179.2 million). Reasons for the deviation are a significantly lower average selling price in the potash and magnesium products business unit and unexpectedly high production outages due to the limited deep-well injection permit for liquid residues at the Werra plant. more
