Saline Water from K+S Plants to be Used for Flooding Purposes

The K+S Werra and Braunschweig-Lüneburg plants will transport saline water to the decommissioned Bergmannssegen-Hugo (Sehnde, Hanover region) in the future. It will be used to flood the mine there. more

Establishment of the International Magnesium Institute

On September 5, 2016, K+S KALI GmbH signed an agreement with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) to jointly establish the International Magnesium Institute (IMI) with its headquarters in Fu Zhou/China. The cooperation will involve the development of scientific know-how for application of the plant nutrient magnesium in agriculture in Asia. By means of joint research projects, new products will be developed and improved application recommendations worked out for fertilizers containing magnesium. more

Human Chain: Impressive support for the potash miners

On Thursday, 8 September 2016, more than 12,000 people signaled their backing to potash mining in the Werra Valley. Employees with their families, friends, partner companies and supporters came together to form a 13 kilometer long human chain from Unterbreizbach via Philippsthal to Heringen. more

Approval Obtained for Storage at Springen Mining Field

Yesterday, the Thuringia State Mining Authority granted the Company approval for the temporary storage of up to 200,000 cubic meters of process water from the Unterbreizbach site at the nearby Springen (Thuringia) mining field. This means that the Unterbreizbach site will now be able to start producing again. For the two Werra plant sites in Hesse to become fully operational, K+S will still require further permits to be able to dispose production wastewater. more

K+S is acquiring the activities of Huludao Magpower Fertilizers Co., Ltd. (Magpower), the Chinese producer of magnesium sulphate fertilizers, for a euro amount in the low double-digit millions range, and in doing so, is taking an important step forward in expanding into Asia. more

Production resumes at Unterbreizbach site

The production of potash fertilizers at the Unterbreizbach site of the Werra plant has temporarily resumed today. Production is expected to be maintained until 14 July 2016. Production at the Werra site is still determined by the strongly limited disposal possibilities as well as the available basin capacities. more

EBIT I of the K+S group in second quarter 2016 significantly below previous year

On the basis of preliminary figures, EBIT I for the K+S Group results to around € 10 million in the second quarter 2016 (Q2/15: € 179.2 million). Reasons for the deviation are a significantly lower average selling price in the potash and magnesium products business unit and unexpectedly high production outages due to the limited deep-well injection permit for liquid residues at the Werra plant. more

The “Saline Reduction Masterplan” approved by the Weser River Basin Association environment ministers today - a special program of measures tied to the Weser River Basin Association management plan – is, however, geared solely toward reducing saline pollution. more

Water protection package of measures successfully implemented

The goal for the implementation of the water protection package of measures was demanding: The halving of wastewater volume by the end of 2015 by investing about 400 million euros in new facilities developed by K+S. With the new kieserite flotation facility at the Wintershall site, this goal has been achieved on schedule. more
