Container Logistics Meet Customer Requirements

The worldwide increase of container transport is also reflected in the logistics of K+S KALI GmbH. From 2005 - 2011 the transport of products via containers rose from 28,300 TEU to 59,300 TEU; it has actually more than doubled. TEU stands for Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, the 20-foot standard container used for the transport of goods worldwide. The rapid increase of container transports slowed down temporarily in 2009, as a result of the worldwide financial and economic crisis.

Containers Facilitate A Worldwide, Efficient Distribution Network

Our chart of the month shows the development of container transports of K+S KALI GmbH, by continent, from 2005 until 2011. With the exception of North America, all shipping routes show an increase of container transports during that period. With nearly 50,000 TEU the route to Asia represents the lion’s share of K+S KALI GmbH’s container transports.

Container Logistics Open Up New Markets

Another advantage of containers is their exceptional flexibility: They may contain bulk cargo as well as bagged material. And, in contrast to bulk carriers they also allow shipping smaller quantity units to individual customers. This enables K+S KALI GmbH to serve smaller and mid-size customers, as required, and to open up new market potentials in this customer segment.
